I </3 (anti-heart) moving day. I’m such a slow mover, so today was a real bitch. We planned to move a ton of our stuff to the new house today. Thing is, we planned to take the whole day to move.

We definitely got to move today. But it was like a moving day on crack. The day started off to a pretty nasty start. Before we would put everything on the truck, we would give the stuff a good vacuuming to weed out any bugs and webs. I emptied out my clothes cabinet, and checked the back. It was a scary sight; it was pretty full of cobwebs. So I really anti-hearted cleaning the back of it. Then again, it’s a love hate action; you hate to clean it, but you feel good after.

So after a while, we decided to get the truck to move. That’s where another problem came into play. We didn’t make earlier reservations, so Budget truck rental was out of trucks. Luckilly we went to San Luis Paints and was able to rent a U-Haul truck. There was a catch though; we could only rent the truck for 2 hours. So much for taking our sweet time moving stuff.

Here’s a close timeline of what we did today:

13:30 – Rented the U-Haul

13:45 – Arrived at the house

13:47 – Vacuumed the large sofa and put it in the truck

13:55 – Vacuumed the mini-sofa and put it in the truck

14:00 – Vacuumed my clothes cabinet and put it in the truck

14:02 – Put the cabinet drawers into the truck

14:04 – Vacuumed Jay’s desk and put it into the truck

14:08 – Vacuumed Jay’s bed and put it into the truck

14:10 – Vacuumed Chris’ desk and put it into the truck

14:15 – Threw all the sh*t on my desk to the floor, dismantled my desk, vacuumed it and put it into the truck

14:25 – Emptied Chris’ cabinet, vacuumed it, and put it into the truck

14:35 – Vacuumed the coffee table and put it into the truck

14:40 – Drove fast as hell to the new house

14:50 – Arrived at the new house

14:52 – Unloaded and arranged the coffee table in the empty room

14:54 – Unloaded and arranged Chris’ cabinet in the empty room

14:59 – Unloaded and arranged Chris’ desk in the empty room

15:02 – Unloaded and arranged my desk parts in the empty room

15:02 – Unloaded and arranged Jay’s desk in the empty room

15:04 – Unloaded and arranged Jay’s bed in the empty room

15:07 – Unloaded and arranged my cabinet in the empty room

15:10 – Unloaded and arranged the mini sofa in the living room

15:16 – Unloaded and arranged the sofa in the living room

15:25 – Hauled ass to the gas station and filled the truck with gas

15:27 – Rushed back to San Luis Paints

15:45 – Arrived at San Luis Paints

16:00 – Returned the truck

16:15 – Arrived at Firestone’s

16:20 – Ordered a tri-tip and basket of fries

16:25 – Ordered a Double Barrel from the bar

16:26 – blur…

Yeah, so I’m so over this day. I’m glad I start work #2 late on Saturday. Cause I’m dog tired…so I’m gonna go sleep now.

Here’s a pic I took on my cellphone of today’s “fun”:

Move-out day at Cal Poly for me is usually pretty fast-paced. We get-in, get stuff out, get out. This year, though, was way more than I bargained for.

So I wake up groggy at 8 in order to get some last packing done. The kitchen drawers and fridge needed to be cleared out. Unfortunately, I didn’t have anymore boxes to put everything in (silverware holder, dish dryer/holder thing, another pot, rice, and others that I didn’t intend on keeping). So I put that on the sideburner (not literally), and finish getting my room ready. Take a shower, and at 10, decide to go sell my last book. Learned my parents were going to be late, arriving after 1. Also spoke to the landlord of the house me and the guys wanted to get. He wanted to meet up at 1 at McDonalds (see where this is going?).

Since my parents were going to be late, and I thought I had everything packed, I decided to goto work. Nothing much went on there. Miguel and Eric were there, along with the pit boss. They were just helping out one girl with a laptop and watching The Last Samurai. We were all pretty hungry, so after the girl left, we left and went to Louisa’s Place for some lunch. Note the time we arrived was 12:30PM. I didn’t realize the time until after I ordered; luckilly Jay called up a bit before 1 and asked what was going on with our house deal. So I had to get them to do a pick-me-up and run at Louisa’s Place so I could retrieve my applications and deliver them all to the landlord. I had to contact the guy and let him know we were running behind schedule (we didn’t get to him until 1:30; not the best way to impress a landlord). So he looks over our stuff, and lets me know that we’re the ideal group they are looking for (a big boost of confidence). I sweetened the deal by offering to give the credit fee check already. So we arranged to meet in another 5 min to get my check.

I was pretty darn hungry. Remember, I ordered my food at Louisa’s when I was there, but had to leave. It was 1:50, and I never got to see it.

So 10 min after, I run from my apartment straight to the Housing office where we scheduled to meet. Gave him the check, and he stunned me by giving me a contract for the house! If our credit checks came out well, we were guaranteed to get the house, so he said. He wanted the security deposit soon to secure our reservation, so I had to run back to the apartments to let Jay and Chris know. During this whole hectic trek, my parents kept calling wondering if I was still eating. In the span of the two or three calls, I was in a different location in SLO. So I just told them to head to the apartments. I make photocopies of the contracts, head up to Jay and Chris to give them the contracts. Jay drops the bomb that he can’t pay the security deposit today. So I had to leave the landlord a message cause he wasn’t picking up. Parents arrive, so we start packing my TONS of stuff. During the packing, landlord lets me know that he needs the cosigners to sign an agreement as well. So I had to get another paper to fill out.

Miguel calls and wonders if I’m going back to the office (I left my stuff there, plus I had Jeff’s key to the office). I had him drive up with my bike and backpack (and FOOD) with the cart. No way I’m running back to the office just to have to bike and get my stuff. During this time I was juggling packing two cars, cleaning the apartment, finding Miguel, finding the landlord, filling out house paperwork, answering call after call on my phone.

So, because of all this stuff being piled on me at once, the whole moving process took an ungodly 4 hours to complete. I’m surprised I didn’t get a ticket for having my Jeep parked in front for so long (30 min limit for moving out). I’m soo tired from all the running, talking, cleaning, packing, signing, paying, and driving. I’m just glad I finally got to eat my mushroom chicken sandwich from Louisa’s…10 hours later and 4 hours away.

To celebrate the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, my brother Larry, his gf Liza, his friend Max, Max’s gf, two of Liza friends, and I went to Folsom (a bit east of Sacramento) to go kayaking at Lake Natoma. The weather that day was very nice, eighty something degrees. The four girls paired up into two two-seater kayaks, while Max, Larry, and I each took our own single. OMG you won’t believe how hard it is to move around in that thing! The hardest part about transporting yourself in a kayak is starting from still movement. Once you start moving, paddling to accelerate becomes easier. I constantly found myself stopping to rest just after getting myself up to a decent speed. Larry, on the other hand, was flying around. I definitely got an arm workout like no other that day. At the end of our day at Lake Natoma, we were feeding a squirrel who just kept coming back for more food. I think we doomed that squirrel into domestication now. I hope the squirrel didn’t die from lack of Pringles. Anyway, in commemoration of the summer solstice, here are the pictures of the fun (scenery pics will be posted tomorrow):

Friday was the pits! It was supposed to be a good day, with me going home for Easter. But things started off on the wrong foot, and just got worse and worse. Here’s a rundown of my long long day.

I was supposed to wake up around 6:30 AM so I could have enough time to shower and get down to the University Union and catch my bus to the Amtrak station. However, I shut off my alarm when it went off and went back to bed (typical action when I’m woken up early). Luckilly, I knew I would do this the night before, so I set an alarm on my Palm Vx PDA as well as a backup. Still, I ended up getting up around 6:45, and was forced to rush. Not a good thing, since I usually forget stuff under time constraints. Anyway, I rushed to the UU around 7:05, and waited 10 minutes before I realized I missed the 7:00 bus. The bus schedule said the next Route 4 bus wouldn’t get there until 40 minutes later, so I decided to go have some breakfast at the LightHouse.

So I put my two backpacks into lockers and walk into Lighthouse. I took out my wallet, then that’s when the panic set in. I couldn’t find my student ID card! It wasn’t the fact that I couldn’t use meals without it, but I had PLUS dollars on it! So if someone had my card, they could use the dollars easily. Fearing I just left it in the dorm, I ran back to my room. I thrashed my side of the room looking for it, spending about 10 minutes. After that, I gave up, assuming the card was lost. I possibly lost my card, and I didn’t have time for breakfast anymore. So I scurried back to Lighthouse to collect my bags. It was on the way that I discovered that my student ID card was in my jacket’s pocket the whole friggen time! So I wasted 30 minutes runing to and from my dorm while missing out on breakfast for nothing. You should have seen my face then. I almost missed the 7:35 bus too! But thankfully, I just made it, and got to the Amtrak station and San Jose without any trouble.

The two bus trips were about the only two events that went off without any problems. After that, all hell broke loose. I assumed my Caltrain trip would go perfectly, but I was wrong, 1-mile wrong. For some un-announced reason to me, the train didn’t make my expected San Bruno stop next to Tanforan mall. Instead, it stopped at an unfamiliar stop. I thought that I was going through amnesia, because the stop was unfamiliar. So, I stayed on the train, thinking my stop was next. But alas, soon afterward I saw the old stop pass by. It shouldn’t have been much of a problem; however, I told my mom to pick me up at San Bruno station. When I realized I was taking a “detour” to South San Francisco station, she already left the house. And without a cellphone, my mom can be hard to reach, especially when I know she’ll spend an hour at the old San Bruno station waiting for me.

So instead of waiting an hour before my mom would possibly try calling me or going back home, I decided “bollocks to this; I’m walking home”. And so I did. All 1 – 2 miles, carrying two heavy backpacks, wearing a jacket in the sun, having no food since the night before. I wasn’t very happy at this time. Thankfully, I passed by a Jack in the Box and finally got food! Empowered with a sourdough grilled chicken sandwich and fries, I finished my long journey home….somewhat. I walked up the stairs to the house, put the key in, turned, and opened the door. DONK! My mom left the 2nd sliding lock on our door. I was locked out! So I had to wait a good 10 minutes before my mom finally called me and started back home.

Finally let in the house, I thought my day was over. I was tired and sleepy. But lo, when I come into my room, I see these two mattresses and bedframe leaning on my wall. I knew something was up, and later I was right. My dad asked me to help replace my brother’s twin bed with a queen sized bed our uncle gave to us. So after getting an hour nap, my dad and I spent around 3 hours going all over the house, taking stuff out and moving it upstairs and downstairs, deciding where matresses should go, cleaning my room, and hearing lots of cursing from my dad. Finally, we finished replacing the bed. Now that I look back on it, I wonder if my brother had a hidden agenda by deciding to go back to work to “work on his project.” I think he didn’t want to work on the bed, and use me for cheap labor. Well, my labor doesn’t come cheap apparently. My dad gave me $100 for all my efforts. So if you look at me now, I’m all smiles =)
