What happens when you combine two similar videos?

by inferno10 on Jan.28, 2006, under accomplished

Click here to view my video! If you read the news involving Apple, you’ve probably heard that a recent Apple ad for their new Intel Macs appeared to be a shot-for-shot copy of The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” music video. Apple admitted the ad agency used the same director for the music video, so it’s no surprise.

Well, someone showed me a video of the Apple commercial with “Such Great Heights” playing in the background, and being the bored person that I am, I wanted to do a spoof ad better than what I saw. I loaded up iMovie HD, and painstakingly substituted parts of the Apple ad into the original music video (courtesy Rkstar Video). I made an effort to blend the ad into the music video seamlessly, and think I did a good job of it. If you’re keen on details, you should be able to tell where I substituted the ad.

The videos really flow together quite well as you’ll see, so there’s no doubt the music video inspired the ad. If only they used similar-looking cast to make my editing a lot easier.

Elegance

With the really nice house we live in now, we can’t just tape up posters around anymore. At least I’m not going to be that cheap this time. Picture frames all over my room will go up. Here’s two walls:

Honey Chili Chicken

by inferno10 on Mar.12, 2005, under accomplished

Here’s a recipe I got from Mary Sue and Susan, the Hot Tamales on KFI. I made it today, and it tastes awesome! Just be sure to have it with some milk.

1 broiler-fryer chicken

(about 3 pounds or 1450g)

1/2 cup (125mL) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon (2mL) salt

3 cups (750mL) vegetable oil

1/3 cup (80mL) water

1/3 cup (80mL) lemon juice

2 teaspoons (10mL) cornstarch)

4 teaspoons (20mL) Chinese chili sauce

2 teaspoons (10mL) soy sauce

1 1/2 teaspoons (7mL) grated pared fresh ginger root

3 tablespoons (45mL) honey

6 green onions, cut into thin lengthwise slices

Remove giblets from chicken. Rinse chicken and cut into small serving-size pieces. Combine flour and salt. Coat chicken pieces with flour mixture (salt and pepper for taste). Heat oil in wok over high heat until it reaches 375ºF (190ºC.) Add chicken pieces one at a time, to hot oil (cook only 1/3 of the pieces at a time). Cook until golden, about 5 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper. Repeat with remaining chicken.

Pour all but 1 tablespoon (15mL) of the oil out of wok. Combine water, lemon juice, cornstarch, chili sauce and soy sauce. Add ginger to oil in wok. Stir-fry 1 minute. Add honey to ginger. Cook and stir 1 minute. Add cornstarch-chili mixture to honey and ginger. Cook and stir until mixture boils, about 1 minute. Stir chicken pieces into chili mixture. Cook and stir until chicken is hot throughout, about 3 minutes. Stir in onions. Cook and stir 1 minute.

Penny Pinching

by inferno10 on Jan.22, 2005, under accomplished

Holy crap. I just woke up with the realization that I spent less than 20 dollars this entire week. That’s even including gas! Could the days of Jason the Pennypinching Mute be upon us?

Nah. I’m just living off of Costco and my 24 pack of hot dogs and rice until I get further away from the dreaded zero or negative bank balance. Don’t want to overdraw again.

Need money for ski trip. Speaking of ski trip, I wonder if the CPSC ski trips are like what I always hear. The ‘partial nudity’ in their flyers got me thinking. LOL

Anyway, off to do my stinky laundry! Just ran out of boxers….
